Meet Your Master Trainer

Vanessa Kelly
Lead Master Trainer

Vanessa Kelly is a Pilates Master Trainer, Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Instructor and Posture Alignment Specialist through Egoscue University.

Vanessa first learned the Body Arts and Science International (BASI) method of Pilates in 2009. She began her Pilates career as an independent contractor in 2009 at Core Fit, a private Pilates studio in Las Vegas.

During her time there, Vanessa discovered her passion for rehabilitation and posture analysis through corrective exercises. She attended her first workshop, in San Francisco, on how Pilates can help correct scoliosis and decrease chronic back pain. Her education continued with Vanessa attending The Pilates on Tour Rehabilitation conferences held in Phoenix.

In 2011, Vanessa accepted a position as Lead Pilates Instructor at Life Time Athletic Summerlin, where she quickly proved that her dedication to her craft and her attention to detail with clients was extremely valuable to the company. After learning and assisting in the Pilates program, Vanessa eventually accepted a promotion as the Pilates Coordinator at Life Time Fitness Tempe in April 2013.

The dedication and desire to help people through Pilates along with Postural Therapy led to the grand opening of Function Pilates in 2014. Vanessa is the owner and founder of Function Pilates located in Tempe, Arizona. Since opening, she has had the pleasure of working with the Los Angeles Angels minor league in Postural Therapy, and one-on-one Pilates sessions with LPGA, Julie Yang.

“Function Pilates is a place designed for folks to come in to experience healthy, functional movement while enjoying the benefits of Pilates in a traditional way.”

Jen McCoy
Virtual Master Trainer

Jen McCoy is a Comprehensively Certified Instructor through Function Pilates. After a hip injury, Pilates gave Jen the opportunity to keep movement in her day-to-day life while helping her heal. Shortly after starting, Jen felt the amazing benefits and fell in love with the strength Pilates gave her as well as the mind body connection. After a few years of taking Pilates classes, Jen decided she wanted to take her Pilates practice to the next level and become certified. Shortly after looking at a few different local programs, Function Pilates was offering a scholarship program. The stars aligned!

Jen was selected as a finalist and went on to win first place. This scholarship helped her obtain a Full Comprehensive Certificate. Jen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Family & Human Development. By combining her love of Pilates and educational teaching, it just made perfect sense when she was given the opportunity to transition careers to teach Pilates full time. Jen enjoys teaching group classes and private sessions as well as live and virtual environments. She is extremely excited to continue her growth with Function Pilates as a Virtual Master Trainer. In her spare time, Jen enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, travel and of course, Pilates!

Jenna Kirkland
Master Trainer

Jenna Kirkland has worked in several studios across the Valley and enjoys teaching private clients as well as small group classes. She is a Master Instructor for Function Pilates teacher training, and teaches private sessions at Personalized Pilates and small group classes at Core Body Pilates in Arizona.

As a Pilates instructor, Jenna’s goal is to guide her clients though a safe and effective workout tailored and customized to each client’s needs while emphasizing proper form and alignment. Every workout focuses on building core strength, moving with precision and control, while maintaining a mind-body connection. Post workout, her clients move more efficiently, with less effort, and experience reduced pain.

Jenna loves helping people and supporting their mobility and well-being goals through Pilates. She is also passionate about teaching and mentoring new Pilates’s Instructors. It provides her an opportunity to pass along her knowledge and expertise to future generations. This has become a tradition inside of the Pilates community. Building upon the original work of Joseph Pilates, with new ideas and philosophies. Jenna is committed “to paying it forward” and believes that the more we share with one another (as instructors) the deeper the experience and benefit from practicing Pilates for clients.

Jenna has RYT-200 Yoga certification (2016), is Balanced Body trained (2018), and in 2021 began her 2nd Pilates training through Pilates Sports Center. Her continuing education courses have given her insights on pelvic floor dysfunction, Scoliosis, fascia in motion and working with athletes.

A favorite quote of Jenna’s from Joseph Pilates:
“The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”
